Matthew is a kind, yet physically and spiritually strong man from Ukraine who arrives in the United States in search of a new life. Deep inside, he carries a strong sense of loneliness and a sincere desire to find his place in society, to feel needed, and to find love. However, reality proves harsh: without licenses, confident English skills, or formal education, it is nearly impossible for him to secure a decent job.
In order to survive, Matthew takes low-paying work and begins doing small handyman jobs on the side. Lacking professional repair skills and constantly finding himself in awkward and often comedic situations, he repeatedly risks turning every job into a disaster. His repairs frequently spiral into chaos — things break, fall apart, leak, or go completely out of control.
Yet it is within this chaos that something important begins to happen.
Matthew possesses a rare quality — unconventional thinking, deep empathy, and genuine kindness toward people. In his attempt to be useful and accepted, he unintentionally begins helping others resolve far deeper issues: family conflicts, loneliness, unspoken fears, and the loss of inner balance. While fixing broken things, he gradually begins to “repair” people’s lives.
Without even realizing it, Matthew brings peace and harmony into other people’s homes — and in the process, begins to change himself. Each encounter, each story, brings him closer to understanding that what he has been searching for — acceptance, love, and his place in the world — has been within him all along.
His true superpower is kindness — a force strong enough to change people’s destinies, make them pause, reflect, and begin again. Sometimes, in order to build something new, something old must first be broken. The chaos Matthew brings becomes the beginning of healing — both for others and for himself.
Just Matthew is a feature-length film about kindness as a forgotten superpower and about a man who, by helping others find harmony, ultimately finds it within himself.
