Matthew is a kind, but physically and spiritually strong man from Ukraine. Arriving in the United States in search of a new life, he faces a harsh reality: without licenses, confident English skills, or formal education, it is nearly impossible for him to find a decent job. In order to survive, he takes low-paying work and begins doing small handyman jobs on the side.
Lacking professional repair skills and constantly finding himself in awkward and often comedic situations, Matthew repeatedly risks turning each job into a disaster. His repairs frequently become near-catastrophes — things break, fall apart, leak, or spiral out of control. Yet it is precisely in this chaos that something important begins to happen.
Matthew possesses a rare quality — unconventional thinking, deep empathy, and genuine kindness toward people. While fixing a leaking faucet or a broken shelf, he unexpectedly helps those around him confront much deeper problems: family conflicts, loneliness, unspoken fears, and the loss of inner stability. Without realizing it, he brings peace and harmony into other people’s homes.
These qualities are Matthew’s true superpower — one he is not even aware of. It is so powerful that it changes people’s destinies, forces them to pause, look at their lives differently, and awaken. Sometimes, in order to build something new, something old must first be broken. The chaos Matthew brings becomes the beginning of healing.
Just Matthew is a feature-length film about kindness as a real, forgotten superpower, and about a man who, by selflessly helping others, slowly finds himself.
